Podocarpus National Park

Tour highlights.

Day 1

After leaving Vilcabamba we travel east to Yamburara Alto and enter Podocarous National Park. We ascend along the ridge trail between the valleys of Guabo Playa and Capamaco to an altitude of 7000 feet, passing beautiful streams and landscapes. On our way to the Las Palmas ecolodge center we enjoy many spectacular views of the surrounding forest areas and mountains.podocarpus-rainbow

Day 2

(Weather permitted) We hike through dense primary forest up to the lake Rabadilla de Vaca at an altitude of 10.000 feet. This portion of the trip will truly prove to be an unforgettable adventure. Finally we return back to the ecolodge center.

Day 2 – alternative route

(Weather permitted) We hike two hours through lush cloud forest to an area offering several pristine waterfalls. While returning to the ecolodge center, where we stay for another night, we can visit the nearby tree canopy.

Day 3

After breakfast we hike down to the river with two large and impressive waterfalls just 30 minutes from the ecolodge center, before returning to civilization. Finally we descend back down to Vilcabamba following the same original route.

 

 

In the southern region of Ecuador you will find the 360,000-acre (146,300-hectare) Podocarpus National Park. The park is made up of two primary areas: the upper pre-montane section with tropical cloud forests and the lower subtropical section.
