Tour highlights.
Depart from Restaurant Campary, at the foot of Vilcabamba’s central square. We climb 400 meters in 6.5 kilometers, passing Izhcayluma and reaching the crest of the valley, which offers magnificent views. After a 4-km descent (downhill) to Masanamaca, we continue onward, passing an impressive group of unusual erosion-formed pillars and climbing to the village of Yangana, where we’ll stop for lunch.
From there, we’ll take the old road to Quinara, passing rivers and settlements. From there, we’ll follow the canal from Quinara to Tumianuma, and take the old road between Tumianuma and Linderos through the hilly terrain of a dry forest. From Linderos, we’ll take the river road to Cucanama Alto, and climb a horse trail to a canal, which we’ll follow for an easy, view-filled return to Vilcabamba.
Alternative route:
We’ll continue past Quinara through the valleys of the Piscopamba and Vilcabamba rivers, and arrive at Cucanama Alto. From there, we’ll climb a horse trail to a canal, which we’ll follow for an easy, view-filled return to Vilcabamba.
