Tour highlights.
Depart from Restaurant Campary, at the foot of Vilcabamba’s central square. We descend the main road as far as Madre Tierra and then continue along a country road to Chaupi, where we’ll cross the Vilcabamba River and head to Cucanama Alto. From there, we’ll climb along a horse trail to the canal, and then have an easy return toward Vilcabamba, enjoying panoramic views of two valleys.
Our route will take us past Vilcabamba, and on to barrio Cubalibre and downhill to the zoo. After a mild uphill, we’ll arrive at the chapel of Yamburara Alto, passing some unusual erosion-formed pillars along the way.
We’ll cross the valley on a horse trail and pass the Chamba River, climbing to barrio San José, and returning to Vilcabamba along a route with excellent views.
